Stumble But Don’t Fall

As I am sure many of you saw on the national and local news, Delta, last weekend was a nightmare. Friday (in my mind…) was going to be perfect. I had the week from HELL with work. I had my first blog post going LIVE and I was looking forward to going to see #Bawldamoor (Bae’s nickname-he’s going to kill me) for a long weekend.

My flight was set to leave at 10am with boarding beginning at 920am. I arrived to the airport around 8am because I am chronically early for everything. I glanced at the departures and my flight was on-time. COOL.

Around 9a #Bawldamoor texted me saying my gate changed. HHMMM. Ok, I glance at the screen when I get to the new gate and I am still on time. Alright, we still in action.

So, now it’s 930am and it’s time to board–so I thought. The flight attendant announces that we have no flight crew. The Next flight to BWI is at 2p, 5p and 7p…but those have NO crews either. UMMM– ma’am. What cha mean? Apparently, there was a storm in Atlanta on Wednesday that grounded many flights and that caused pilots and attendants to hit their max hours so basically, no Delta flight is going anywhere. Bruh– it’s Friday. WYD DELTA? And why wasn’t I warned? Instead of reacting and popping off (like I wanted to) I stopped and prayed.

I moved closer to the booth where an older couple is talking to the attendant because I need answers. I overhear her say there is another flight to Dulles (Virginia) leaving across the hall at 1130am and has a crew. So I immediately text #Bawldamoor and let him know the situation and he’s like yeah jump on that flight (it’s over a hour and a half drive away!). So I jump in line. I said my usual Yes, Ma’ams, no, Ma’am’s and continually thanked her for her help. After about 5 minutes of work. YAY! I got one of the last tickets. AAYYYEEE.

Would you believe me if I told you that flight is delayed an hour due to plane issues? Because it was. Now, what the lady across the hall failed to mention was this plane was from 1975 and a puddle jumper. The plane was so small that it had no Delta Comfort or First Class. But, I am not in a position to fight it so whatever. Get me out of Michigan.

We finally take off and we hit the worse turbulence I have ever experienced and on smaller planes it’s even worse. I am literally in my sit hunched over and the random guy next to me rubbing my back telling me we are only 20 minutes out and to hold on. I was thankful for him because he kept me calm.

Get Me Off This Plane.

Finally land and OF COURSE, gate A 74 and it’s a nice walk down to baggage claim. I just want to get out of the airport. I finally make it to #bawldamoor and.. the city of Baltimore around 4p. I should have landed around 11am but I made it. FINALLY.

It continued On Sunday when it was time to go home. My flight was delayed about and hour and a half. But I made it home when thousands of other people did not make it to any destination over the weekend. I made it there and back home in one piece.

Moral Of The Story…

Remain calm, all will work itself out. I have been working on reacting less, praying more. I am emotional, it’s the Cancer in me. I know I have stop reacting to situations and wearing my emotions. I won’t lie, I did freak out a little on Friday but I checked it and prayed. I remember reading on Thursday my daily e-mail from Joel Osteen that said:

Did you know that the way you treat people has an impact on the effectiveness of your prayers? The Bible says that the prayer of the righteous person is powerful. But if we aren’t treating others with honor, kindness and respect, then we aren’t allowing His righteousness to operate in us. When we don’t treat others the way we should, it closes the door to God’s power and hinders our prayers.

BINGO. I am sure that my calmness and prayers helped me in the situation and I know that being pleasant helped me get on the Dulles flight. Like Olsteen said, when we treat people poorly we hinder our blessings. Don’t block your blessings! On the flight home I ran into a lady on my original flight who was GOING OFF on a flight attendant. She ended up on five canceled flights and had her luggage lost. What’s that you say, universe? KARMA? Things that make you go HHHHMMMM, right? It was a great weekend once I got to Baltimore and with #Bawldamoor. I stumbled but I didn’t fall. That is all that matters.

“…Treat her as you should so your prayers will not be hindered.” – 1 Peter 3:7
